PCH is climate neutral through ClimatePartner.

PCH is climate-neutral

We were recognised as a ‘climate-neutral company’ by ClimatePartner for the first time back in May 2022. Having calculated our company’s carbon footprint, we were given the opportunity to offset the greenhouse gas emissions we generated. This is yet another significant milestone in our sustainable corporate strategy to conserve valuable resources. This article explains more about climate neutrality and our renowned partner ClimatePartner.

What is climate neutrality?

Climate neutrality centres in particular on offsetting carbon. Provided that a company is able to minimise or completely avoid its CO₂ emissions, it qualifies as climate neutral. Any greenhouse gases that do occur can then be offset by financing projects that are relevant to the environment.

Who is ClimatePartner?

ClimatePartner supports companies all around the world in calculating their carbon footprint and developing corresponding measures aimed at permanently reducing greenhouse gases. Any remaining emissions can be fully offset by the targeted promotion of various recognised climate protection projects, for instance through reforestation or the growth of renewable energies.

How did PCH become climate neutral?

Based on the calculation of our carbon footprint, we made the decision to support the “Mataven Colombia Forest Protection” climate protection project and in doing so, offset our emissions. This project protects 1,150,200 hectares of tropical rainforest in Colombia and thereby preserves its biodiversity. The project also facilitates education, healthcare, sanitary facilities, food security and other social services for 16,000 indigenous people. The climate protection project works hand in hand with the communities living there to improve their living conditions and promote sustainable economic growth.

The project promotes the protection of indigenous territories by giving the communities self-determination in their administration, which in turn facilitates better monitoring of the areas and stronger communication and transport systems. The goal of the project is to achieve a holistic approach to sustainable change towards sustainable economic methods and nature conservation.

What’s the next step for us?

We support this project with full conviction, yet we are also aware that offsetting is only the first step towards a sustainable strategy. We want to work together in the future on developing measures that prioritise avoiding and reducing CO₂ emissions.
